There's agreement even among SEMPO board members that the organization needs a full-time executive director. Past disucssion on this can be found in the Mike Grehan Stirs Up SEMPO Controversy (http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/showthread.php?t=775) and SEMPO Meeting at SES San Jose 2004 (http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/showthread.php?t=894) threads.
At the SES meeting, it was announced that SEMPO would seek to have someone in this position by December 2004 or perhaps even November 2004. This thread is for those who wish to discuss or comment on this plan -- fast enough? Need to be faster? Whatever you feel, post here.

I am not a member yet so I really don't care but as an observer, I think their timeframe is fine. I do think if the organization is to succeed, it will need an Executive Director who is not in any competition with the members as Barbara is.
We have three non-profit trade associations for clients and all their Exec Directors are full time and are not competitors of the membership.

"A majority of the voting members of the board of trustees of a hospital should be comprised of independent community members. This means that practicing physicians affiliated with a hospital, as well as officers, department heads and other employees of the hospital, cannot consititute the majority of the board."

Depends where you take the starting point from. If its from formation then nowhere near fast enough, from today Novemeber is real quick.
The issue, once again, is that these points were first raised on formation, thats the clock that is ticking and imho about to explode. I am sure we will see some resignations very soon.

Well I still don't see the position listed on their job board. :)

Ok this may sound like a weird analogy but I think it can fit in somewhere.
You know those kids that keep banging on something and you tell them to stop? You tell them nicely to stop or you will take away their toys. They know the system so well that they will bang a few more times after that statement before they stop; knowing that you won't take away their toys. They say sorry sorry, I won't do it again, but the cycle continues more and more each time until patience gets the better of someone to take away the toys.
The SEMPO board has been told to make changes or else. They keep hesitating on those changes for a bit longer in order to keep those compulsive actions alive while they believe that nothing will happen if they do so. They give apologies and say that it won't happen again but it will.
