So I found out today that my boss had already purchased over 100 domain names that are similar to the domain we are actually live with. All of these 100+ domain names are pointing to our main page. Is this bad? Boss said she did it to protect our name - much like McDonalds might purchase McDonolds - you know? But my concern is that we have 100+ domain names, and they all re-direct to our main page. Should I turn all of them off? Should I have them pointing anywhere? Help!

The devil's in the detail: if the all redirect, i.e. the address bar always shows one domain name, don't worry.
Either way though, worst case scenario 99 of the domains just get deduped and don't show ever.
IMHO, your boss is one smart lady, as if a site grows, all sorts of people leap gloriously onto the bandwagon. That said, 100 domains is possibly overkill.

That is correct - if I type in one of the redirected domain names, the address stays the originally typed in domain name, even after you start clicking through the site. SO...I will take a deep breathe and not worry about it. Thanks.

If you want to keep a clean house you could always set a domain 301 redirect for all of the purchased domain names to point to the main domain.
This way there is NO chance you will start seeing those domain names popping up in the SERPS.

I think that is what we are going to do. I have seen that G has picked up on them, and I just don't want to run the risk. Thanks for the help!
