I've spent several long weekends submitting my friends site to the InfoSilenter list of directories. Now I want to check the quality of my work.

However, given the time taken to do the submitting, I am not really that keen to visit each site, search and record the results.

Are there any good tools that will take a URL and search for my site? All the "link checkers" I've seen so far will only check one-level deep and that is not much use for directories.

Thanks muchly!

You could run a backlink check, there are many free tools that will do this for you, like webuildpages.com, marketleap or seobook. Some of these directories have cues that are verrrry long, so don't expect to see much result in the first six months unless you have paid for inclusion, then you should be following up regularly.

Note that many directories nowadays are just link farms and won't even be visible to search engines.

A couple directories that add quickly in my experience (they send addition confirmations) are WOW Directory, AddURLFree, Allthewebsites, KingBloom, Portal IT, MostPopularSites, WorldSiteIndex, SiteSeek, Funender, SearchSight, Addyoursitefree, and UUDir.

Whether these sites are visible to search engines or get any traffic is another question.
