US plans massive data sweep (http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0209/p01s02-uspo.html?s=hns)

The US government is developing a massive computer system that can collect huge amounts of data and, by linking far-flung information from blogs and e-mail to government records and intelligence reports, search for patterns of terrorist activity.

It would collect a vast array of corporate and public online information - from financial records to CNN news stories - and cross-reference it against US intelligence and law-enforcement records.

here's a serp you don't want to be in the top 10 for....

slashdot says they are going to use Alexa Websearch but I don't see anything about it in the article.

You mean they don't already?

You can bet that as soon as I spot this spider it will be receiving a 403 from my properties.

The US Gov wants to look at my stuff they can get a warrant...

That gives me goosebumps...and not in a good way

Gee, I wonder if the completely-out-of-character announcement that they foiled an attack in LA was part of the "softening up" process leading to THIS announcement?

Nah, that would be cynical.

I wonder if the US GOV plans on reembursing site owners for the bandwidth that they are going to use??? Or does the US Gov feel this is just another 'tax'?
