Maybe you don't want certain words to be seen by your visitors?

I am just asking if there is way for google to detect this. I have searched so many times and taken to websites that had no words that I searched for.

ok then honestly, I suspect Google can detect this in theory but that they don't currently, and may not for some time, if ever. That doesn't mean they may not hand check sites they think are ranking suspiciously.

That said I think there are much more sophisticated ways of ranking highly than using hidden on page elements, I honestly can't imagine why you wouldn't want to show your on page text to human visitors if you're doing long term optimisation or why you'd want to do things this way of you're doing a down and dirty version.

Also considering that its incredibly easy to identify your site, company, and presumably clients, from this post I'd advise strongly against it from now on :)

tomovuk,
So, what exactly are you trying to prove? That you can jerk Google around?

You keep up this kinda business and you'll be back in here whining about your site disappearing in the SERPs.

CSS tricks are sooooo 2002.... They rank right up there with white-on-white text for being trendy and effective.

I don't try to fool Google, but if I ever decided to I'd probably NOT choose a method that links my deceptive actions directly to editorial control over the website in question.

In short, in order for that to work you need to be telling Google at the same time that the person doing it is the owner/controller of the site (ie, in control of the css file). This makes the target very clear.

If I was planning on messing with a search engine, I would not do so in a manner that painted a big fat bullseye on my main site, but that's just me...

I wanted to test some things but you are right I shouldn't do this on my main site. That is why I posted this message on couple of forums. Just wanted to see all my options and I do have too much to lose by doing this.

Thanks...

There's an interesting thread over at Webproworld, gist of it is G is not indexing anything within hidden/display none Divs and this is hitting sites with CSS drop-down menus.

IIRC this was determined by comparing the cached pages to the originals...

I don't have problems with google indexing me but someone reporting me. That is why i wouldn't do it, but google would never detect me.
