I noticed today when reviewing Googles text only cache of a page that uses a hidden div (which is made visible by clicking on a More.. link) that the text in the hidden div is no longer seen in the text cache wheras it was before.

I have also found the same thing to be true on other sites which are using hidden divs in some DHTML menu systems.

Since the text is not in the cache I conclude that Google is no longer indexing the content of hidden divs. Anyone else notice this?

There is a post on this over at Search Engine Roundtable. According to the post, it looks like as long as the css code is on the page is not indexing the hidden divs. If you put the css in an external file and link to it, it looks like those sites were not affected. You can then disallow those files through your robots.txt. It also looks like this is an effect of the Jagger update.

Any idea if this is effecting scrolling text via CSS?

if it is using a visibility: hidden; then it probably is.

Does anybody have an update on how Google is treating hidden divs? Are they 'seeing' the content and using it in the algorithm?
