Hi,

I have a huge finance directory of more than 5,000 Pages. It has .UK domain.
The site has links form many other website (around 56 sites). These all sites are mine, but hosted on different servers.

These sites are all finance, loan, credit card related. None of them are blacklisted. Few days back around 700-800 WebPages were there in Google UK. But presently only 70 Pages are left in the Google database.

The site is set as per the parameters of Google, what I fail to understand is why is it dropping the number of pages. Is it because these 56 websites are hosted on different servers, or some other reason.

These sites were initially only on 2 servers, but now they have been shifted to more than 2 servers.

One more thing when I checked my site for any broken links, through the software it was giving me errors like NO HOST FOUND. But when I manually checked those links everything was fine.

Is this the reason for loss of pages from Google, or some other point, which I am missing?

Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi

Maybe its better to focus your efforts on one domain rather than 57. Thats a lot of domains for one guy to work on.

Dont take this the wrong way, but what you are effectively saying is that youve built these other domains (http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html) to boost the popularity of your main domain, but have recently seen a negative downturn in the number of reported pages.

Avoid tricks intended to improve search engine rankings. A good rule of thumb is whether you'd feel comfortable explaining what you've done to a website that competes with you. Another useful test is to ask, "Does this help my users? Would I do this if search engines didn't exist?"

Finance is a particularly competitive field. Maybe a competitor took the time to develop a cogent compelling argument that in their opinion you were spamming. Maybe someone at Google agreed with this view and you are now seeing the end result. Maybe its a transitional thing, maybe you'll bounce back at some latter update ( I doubt it will in its current form) , only Google could really tell you.

Were your rankings fabulous previously? Have you seen a downturn in visits, spidering frequencies, conversions etc? How about your performance in other search engines? Are you doing ok even?

The dc (http://www.google.com/search?q=site:seek.uk.com) just checked showed 302 pages for your domain, some have gone to url only, which isn't a very good sign and usually indicative of pages that have either just recently been spidered or are on their way out...

I really dont think you help your cause by drawing a spotlight on your site. Phrases akin to "I built 56 other sites and hosted them elsewhere to help my website" will not endear you to the hearts and minds of the SE death squads.

If you are going to build 57 kw-kw-kw-kw.com type sites and expect to succeed, then IMO you are gonna have to work pretty hard at developing stuff that's useful, worth having, reading etc. Maybe you employ a lot of writers who work on your other sites and write develop good stuff, maybe you don't. I haven't looked at your other 56 sites ( visually, I liked your primary one) but suspect, (correct me if Im wrong) that your others are not up to the quality of your mothership and have been designed to boost link pop. The seek.uk.com domain could also offer a whole lot more than it does. If it were me, Id seriously look at your model and ask myself whether I could do a whole lot better by focusing on my core content.

Finance is massively multifaceted. You could write all sorts of fantastic useful stuff about it. Employ writers, create blogs, show indices, market movemments, historical data, help and advice etc etc blah. IMO, the days of ranking well in competive niches with sites of limited use are numbered.

So what does this have to do with Google and your pages dropping? Well IMO, quite a lot. Its kinda at the heart of the problem in that you are expecting a search engine to include your website for a range of competive phrases and words, yet offer very little content ( a few links aside) in terms of actual related stuff, that its users would find of benefit.

Where are your links from trusted authorities? Why dont we see links to it from sites like forbes and the ft. Where are the links from the economic powerhouses, financial and insurance institutions, watchdogs, etc etc . They are not there, because your site just isn't up to it, its nothing but a same ol same ol directory. To be blunt it offers nothing that is really worth linking to. Would you use your site to find good advice and services/information about various finacial products? If not, why expect a SE to do the same.

Until you start addressing these fundamentals then IMO your site se standing will just deteriorate further.

Just my 2 cents, good luck with it.
