Search Engine Optimization (or search engine optimisation depending on where in the world you are) implies that you're manipulating your website in a way that helps the site gain better organic or 'natural' search engine rankings.

It depends on how you use it.

Officially, it's Search Engine Optimization.

In practice, it's used as Search Engine Optimiz*

Where the * is used for Optimizer, Optimization, Optimize, and Optimized, depending on what part of the sentence it's used in (noun, verb, etc)

No, "it ain't good english", but vernacular use has never been constrained by dictionaries. ;)

As for the "s" vs "z" in there, well, that discussion has been going on for some time: http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/showthread.php?t=3270

I'm personally inclined to say they are both correct for their area of the world.
