What companies/software do people use to track their website statistics and what do you recommend or highly not recommend? My company was using software provided by an SEO company and it didn't work at all... we are now looking at what to buy/what service to sign up for to do this.

Thanks!

I like ClickTracks (http://www.clicktracks.com/). One of our clients also uses HitsLink (http://www.hitslink.com/) and loves that one.

There are so many I could forward your way but really it boils down to:
a) How much data are you going to need?
b) How much data are you going to report on?
c) How much are you willing to spend?

I could suggest Omniture, Hitbox enterprise or even WebTrends... but it all depends on what you have as a budget and what you want to track

If you have a cart... it get pricy... if you get huge traffic (over 2million a month) it gets even pricier

The thing to remember also is that the sales men from these companies will try to sell you the whole she-bang to increase the commission of sales when really you only might need the smaller version.

Having a chainsaw to cut butter is normally what happens to marketing people that dont do enough research on exactly what you need before purchasing.

I would love to have visitorville as my Web Analytics tool...because it looks cool, but alas you may need more than a "cool" factor to get the PO signed.

Research and look at exactly what you need, and then start asking the various companies for RFP's and Demos and most importantly STICK TO YOUR GUNS

Dont get sold what you dont need.

Good Luck
