Hi all,
I have been loosing backlinks from several of my sites.
The PR is holding on all of them. All are PR4 / PR5

When I check cache, all pages are still there.
When I check backlinks on Google TB, backlinks are down by 80%
When I @domain.com I have lots of entries.
From what I can determine, most of my backlinks are new links and the old ones don't show anymore.

Questions :
If the a page is still cached, does it mean that everything ik ok and the issue is more to do with Google messing with backlinks.?
Any way of determining if a site / page is penalised on Google.?
How is the penalty implemented.?

hinote, when there's a penalty you'll know it, you won't wonder. Don't worry about backlinks now, they're just not showing them reliably - it's better to just look at rankings. If you're iin the index and the page is cached, you've got your PR and your rankings are OK there's nothing to worry about.

IMHO, we use no cache tags on all sites.

Reason being...I you are actively updating content on the site the cache may not be delivering the latest info on the site....since the G crawls are wide apart sometimes.
Second if you are offering a special for sign ups , purchasing deals or specials, that cache version still might show an offer that is no longer available

Cheers

Hi, I notice the backlinks on several of my sites are marginally up today.
