Are there any known optimization tips for getting an image on your site high in Google's Image search? It seems the competition here is still pretty low and it might be a very nice opportunity :)

Any thoughts?

"How To Optimize Your Images For Image Search (http://www.webpronews.com/insiderreports/searchinsider/wpn-49-20040513HowToOptimizeYourImagesForImageSearch.html )" by Garret French (dated 05-13-2004).

Don't forget to check their forum for follow-up (http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?p=101562) discussion on the topic.

At the time he posted the article it was showing up #1 in Google Images for the KW "fat bastrd", but it has now dropped down. It seems to me that internal link popularity and PageRank play a significant role along with the other stuff mentioned in the article, since back then it was being linked from the WebProNews homepage and now it is a little bit more deep within the site. Perhaps someone can share light into how the algo differs today from regular web search.
