View Full Version : On average, how long does it take a new url to get indexed? *twiddles thumbs*

I'm working on SEO for a particular website, and it still shows no indexing for Google. It's partially indexed by MSN and Yahoo (only half of the pages), but with Google it is no where to be found. Searching for the URL brings up about 10 pages with incoming links, however.

Froogle integrity is quite good, and the site has been up and running for about a month and a half. I've submitted the url manually, but to no avail.

What is the longest you've ever seen a site take to get picked up? Should I just wait it out? I've certainly not used any spam techniques that would cause the spider to reject the url.

Any comments?

there's no way to say what an "average" time for a URL to get indexed is. there are, however, ways to encourage an engine to index your site more quickly. namely, get a link from a frequently crawled page in your industry. if you need it fast and easy, paying for a reputable directory link may be the way to go. otherwise, get to know some other webmasters or bloggers in your industry, and get a link from them.

to check when google last hit the page, use:

cache:theirsite.com/thispage.htm

if you get your link on a page that's frequently crawled, then submitting manually to any of the engines isn't necessary.

Try the Google site submitter.... and links from sites that get regularly spidered is good.... buy a text link from one for a month....

I have had new pages get hits from Google in two days. Google is much faster than brand M and brand Y.

New pages are different from a new site.... though a week to 8 weeks is the range I have had so far.
