I am helping a friend launch a new jewelry/accessory website. assetsbyangelia.com and wanted to inquire if we have about
$500 to spend on a program for paid clicks to the site, what do people recommend we try?
Going to google or Yahoo directly? Or signing up thru one of the intermediary services? If so, who do people recommend?
thanks

$500 is not going to leave much room for third party profits if they are using those funds to buy clicks as well. you are best off signing up directly.
make sure you research how to use the ppc systems a bit before you use them.
do things like
-use exceptionally well targeted terms
-point people at landing pages
I recommend starting out with Google AdWords & Yahoo! Search Marketing before trying any other PPC system
PPC is a game of margins, so you need to be ensure their site will convert for it to be competitive with the other top sites in your market

I have used both Google and Yahoo as those are the most popular. Right now I am primarily using Yahoo I set a monthly budget amount. I select my keywords. I pick keywords that are not the most popular but are still consistently sought after. I only run my ads during peak hours. I never try for the first spot although I do want to be seen on the first page. If I am listed for a very popular keyword I will be happy with a second page listing. Just something for you to think about if you do decide to do it yourself! I hope this helps you!

When I set up a new campaign, to save myself some administrative time I always roll out a campaign on Google’s Adwords first. Sorry Yahoo, but Google is currently way easier to do business with. The time to setup and approve ads is much faster, and the ads are very less often rejected. So I’ll roll out a batch, monitor progress for about a month, and by then I should have a good idea of which keywords are working and which aren’t. Also, I’ll have a good idea of what creative/landing page combinations are earning the best conversion rates. The PPC ad creative may not be directly applicable to another PPC provider such as Yahoo because of different character count limitations, but I’ll have a good idea of what to do with more or less characters.
After rolling the campaign over to Yahoo, you can then wait a month, refining your strategy further, before moving on to tier 2 providers like Miva (FindWhat) or Kanoodle. Of course, depending on your category, $500 may not get you this far.

Greetings!
In my case we plan to start new b2b portal so I think it would be very useful to get advices from proffesionals how to attract more traffic.
The aproximate budget is 5.000$/month and the first thing I have done I started campaigns at adwords and overture. Now I am working on registering in common directories but I wonder perhaps it is better to register in certain paid directories first?
As to banner networks I think it is not so effective (imho).
What are other ways to get traffic?
Thank you in advance for your answers.
