Yahoo China will married Alibaba in today or tomorrow.
The message is spreaded all over china today. Some said that Jerry Yang met with Mr Ma ( CEO of Alibaba ) today. The match-maker should be Softbank.
Yahoo China will be merged into Alibaba, and Yahoo will own 35% share of Alibaba.

Mr Ma is a very aggresive person, he will become the CEO of this new company.

What will happen in China after that, the competition will be very hard for Yahoo China, Google China and Baidu.

I've heard that Yahoo! is the #1 SE on this country... is that true?

I see...so, what I believed is that Baidu will keep his local "ranking" for a while. I can tell you about my country for example, which the #1 SE is Google despite MSN is offering a search in Spanish (local language) besides too many search tools from Yahoo & TerraLycos also in Spanish.

Probably is the effect called “Branding” who push the people to keep searching on a specific SE on the first time...

I agree with your "branding" opinion. Google and Yahoo will be the future Top 2 at China.

You really need to mention your affiliation with Google IC....

I think Baidu is the number one player in the space and can keep it if Google does not buy a bigger portion or just buy it outright.

Yahoo will dominate Japan on the otherhand... and since SoftBank is a major shareholder moves it makes have to be seen from that affiliation.

Yes, Baidu is the No1 at China now.

But google got three aggresive resellers this month, all together they have nearly 10000 experienced sales.

And Yahoo's marriage with Alibaba means Yahoo SE will benifit from Alibaba's sale force, which are regarded as efficient sale force.

Baidu used to offer its service through its resellers, but during its development, Baidu's resellership policy did hurt most of their resellers. Less and less reseller are willing to sell baidu's service. So Baidu start to buy some reseller companies since the end of last year. Their sale force now can not competed with Google's and Yahoo's.

For traffic, google and Yahoo will alson beat Baidu.
