View Full Version : Site Design for SEO: tabs/images/etc.?

Can anyone offer any advice about using tabs (image files) in my site design (main meny, etc.)? I've heard that the engines don't like image files so much and putting keywords in your images would just be a waste of the valuable keywords and higher level real estate on the page.

I don't want to go and use tabs/image buttons that contain all my keywords only to find out later that I've killed my changes for good SEO.

Thanks so much in advance...I'm new to all this but trying desperately to avoid some major pitfalls!

Don't.

If you must have graphics, do some research on css-based image replacement or, better yet, just go straight text. KISS works best.

I use the upper menu on my pages to directly impact the serps, both in keywords and visual cues in the description to better draw the click.

What he's saying is that you can use CSS to change not only the font of text, but also the background of a cell, so that you can achieve the same look as if you used a mouseover/mouseout on an image.

It's much more effective from a SE stand point to use CSS and text links to accomplish this than use images.
