View Full Version : File extensions (or lack of) affecting SE's?

Hi there,

I have a two-pronged question.

I have a client who has good saturation in Google but not Yahoo.

The site is dynamic and it appears if they are using a mod-rewrite to make the URL's SE friendly. The rewrite is using a 301 to accomplish this.

When the URL's are written they appear as follows:

http://www.thesite.com/directory/directory/directory/

I need to know:

1. Would the lack of file extensions cause a problem in Yahoo? It does not appear to be a problem with Google.
2. When checking the server status the above URL returns a 301 as you'd expect. I tried the test again and omitted the last / and the result was 200OK.

I advised him that the filenames could be an issue. I also stated that Yahoo previously had problems with 301's. However this was meant to be fixed in the last update. I did suggest he consider removing the / so Yahoo recognizes this with a status of 200. But, will this have an adverse affect in Google? When doing the search in Goolgle the SERP's do not show the / . Odd.

I basically need to make recommendations on how to improve saturation in Yahoo without a backlash in other major SE's.

Thanks in advance,
Amye
