Hi everybody,
Following are well known excerpts from ODP submission rules and guidelines (http://www.dmoz.com/add.html):
...
Do not disguise your submission and submit the same URL more than once
...
Auto-submission software is (and always has been) a violation of this procedure. Sites submitted automatically are flagged and deleted after the submission is accepted, without notification to you. Persistent automatic submission may force us to ban you from the dmoz site, so we can provide resources to real human beings.
...
Plase only submit a URL to the Open Directory once. Again, multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites.
So, my question is:
- What if someone (a competitor for example) is using auto-submission software to submit my website to ODP and to hurt my inclusion ?
- What if that guy submits my website (and any other competing) multiple times, continuously.
I've read a post from an ODP editor, stating that the last submission, cancels any previous one and places your website at the end of the queue. This again seems to allow someone to affect your inclusion. Why multiple submissions are not just ignored ?
What do you think ?
In contrast, look (if you have not already) at Google's Facts and Fictions (http://www.google.com/intl/en/webmasters/facts.html) :
Fiction: A competitor can ruin a site's ranking somehow or have another site removed from Google's index.
Fact: There's almost nothing a competitor can do to harm your ranking or have your site removed from our index. Your rank and your inclusion are dependent on factors under your control as a webmaster, including content choices and site design.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fiction: A website will be removed from Google's index if it's "over-submitted."
Fact: We don't require submission nor do we penalize sites for "over-submission." You're free to submit as often as you wish. However, given the nature of our inclusion process, your time is better spent improving the content and links of your site.
