View Full Version : Is Google Wavering from the PR4 Backwards links Priority - PR3 links now Displayed
Link Popularity
Popularity of Links (PR4+)
It seems ESPECIALLY in this LAST Update that a significantly MORE number of PR3 and occassionally PR2 are being displayed
There was Always an occassionaly few - but NOW...
It may be that there technology/ algorithms are advancing to a point where there is Greater Analysis capability of LINKS - less painting with a broad brush

>>Greater Analysis capability of LINKS -
There's been good analysis capability since back in Kleinberg's early days - it's just a matter of them keeping up with the latest foibles.
>>less painting with a broad brush
Actually, the brushtrokes are more like broomstrokes this time around, sweeping away quality PR5 backlinks and leaving loads of PR1 or PR0 scraped pages.
I'm wondering if this latest caper is a play for our sympathy, showing it right out there in front of God and and everybody exactly what it is they've got to contend with. They must need those massages, and they sure do deserve the free lunches.
I really think that the manner in which Google chooses to display links with the link: command is strictly a selection issue unique to the link search and is a totally seperate issue from the ranking algorithm and has no bearing upon it.

Yes, Mel. I'm with you 1000%.
I'm sure that any backlink that Yahoo! knows about is known to Google. So any backlink count from the two should be similar. In fact I would expect the Google count always to be higher, since they spider faster.

after an extensive timely analysis
a CACHE: page of Google once searched for - a brought up
putting the above parameter at the end of the URL string will give a
TEXT-ONLY version of a Web Page
no CSS
no Javascrip
much of the formatting removed - more like HTML 1.0
This is G o o g l e's cache of http://www.google.com/.
G o o g l e's cache is the snapshot that we took of the page as we crawled the web.
The page may have changed since that time. Click here for the current page without highlighting.
This cached page may reference images which are no longer available. Click here for the cached text only.
To link to or bookmark this page, use the following url: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=cache%3Awww.google.com
This is very likely how google views the page in it's algorithms of BODY TEXT
it is very likely that (not factoring in Link Popularity and ALT tags Meta and Title) the visble page is how it will be reverse engineered

As everyone know that google was displaying only PR4 and above backlink sometime back and as mentioned in the post PR2 is also displaying.
The links obviously have a profound effect on how the websites rank, but the number of back links that show up with the link: command is just a measure of probabay what is being taken note of as of now.
Though one can never be sure, each one of us can take our best guesess.
Just in the past few hours -
the SERPs dance is beginning to stretch it's arms and Yawn :)
The Pagerank and backwards links dance will probably begin in a few days
There does not seem to be such a dramatic shift in algorithms - perhaps Google is momentarily content with this one - or the diversions of the imminent IPO is diissuading them from obvious experimentation
There seems to be at least TWO MAJOR schools of thought on this
The Challange:
Once and for all - to uncover the official explanation and the Pratical explanation on the difference in a page/site having a completely
WHITE pagerank bar and a Completely GRAY pagarank showing
Can a Webpage have both  on different datacentes
