View Full Version : Excluding sites on Yahoo!?

Yes, I have been told by our account rep that excluding domains is not technically possible. Unfortunately, we are receiving about 1700 clicks a month from 4 domains on the yahoo/overture network that produce 1 or 2 conversions.

Yes, we have a large budget, and deal in high volume, so an extra 5k doesn't skew the numbers too badly. However, we hate having to pay it. We can't believe Yahoo has no way to remove domains that produce very poor traffic quality.

If Yahoo had the same site exclusion ability as Google our conversion ratio would double and so would our monthly ad spend.

We were told they would conduct a click fraud review, which would take 3-5 business days. Then if warranted they would investigate if there is click fraud. This would take 3-4 weeks to come to a conclusion. If and when they determine click fraud was involved they would issue a refund. We appreciate the effort, but if we could exclude the sites then we could care less if it is click fraud or simply a bad website for our products/service. In either case this model would allow the advertisers to police the network for Yahoo.

What are you doing about poorly performing domains on yahoo?
What solution has Yahoo given you?

1700 clicks from domains producing no returns:

Your input and help is greatly appreciated.

Yes it is true, our ads are being run on a website that blatantly uses incentives for click throughs.

www.jackpot.com
Homepage:

"Help us make Jackpot.com even better! By answering these survey questions you're helping us build Jackpot the way YOU want, with better prizes, more relevant offers, and more fun!"

Then they list contests like:
Win instant cash - up to $25,000!
Claim your Guaranteed cash prize
Get a FREE $10,000,000 entry from iWON!

and many many more. Each incentive offer has a radio button for yes and no.
Click on yes and you are hit with a barrage of pop ups, unders and even auto downloads.

If you complete the form clicking yes or no to each incentive offer and then submit the form you get a "jackpot" page which then displays Overtures ads.

I have searched through overture to find anything related to ads being run on incentive based sites like this but cant find anything. Perhaps it's in the fine print of the account set up policy.

At any rate, we are loosing thousands to this site each month. What is Overture doing about it? Our rep says, either take all the traffic or take none of it.

What are you doing about this situation?

Sorry I'm responding to my own thread here, but I do see that some people are viewing and perhaps this info can help them. And in the end help us all by forcing overture to allow advertisers to exclude poorly performing content sites.

I have not heard from my Overture Rep directly, however 2 of the offending websites I mentioned above have been excluded, or otherwise are no longer displaying our ads.

Jackpot.com
getfound.com

Unfortunately, there are still a number of hit and run offenders still out there.
No clicks one day and then 20-50 clicks with no conversions the next, then they dont show up for a week, and then another 20 clicks with no conversions.

I think I need a better click fraud program eh?

Perhaps this list of poorly performing overture sites can help you as well. This list is not posted to slander any particular website, these sites may work well for others in different industries, it is meant only as an example of sites that have incurred over 50 clicks in 7 days with NO conversions for us. Our ads are in the debt industry and perform exceedingly well on other ad networks.

Please post your list of offending websites.
