I was being egotistical and doing a search for my name and at the top of the list is search engine watch. Great job of optimizing for my name I think I will hire you to do the SEO for my website.
The other thing I found was the text of the result from SEW was the alt tag info from my reputation bars... I am a nice guy... obviously they don't know me.
So if anyone wants to weigh in let the discussion start!!!

I agree - recent tests I was doing for misspelling research had led me to conclude that Google was now indexing alt text, even though it was not linked. This confirms it even more clearly - it's not only being indexed, it's being treated as content.
Interesting....

It's amazing the little things that are showing up in both the Google and Yahoo results lately.

I think this goes to show why you don't ignore any on-page elements. May not be worth it today but it may make a difference tomorrow... Maybe the Keyword Meta tag will be next! ;-)

I have added comment tags, the title tags inside of href tags, my noscripts are loaded... hell I am hunting for everything.

We never stopped, but as always "all things in moderation" and only that which makes sense logically.

Since I'm a moderator, I try to be moderate in my approach to using SEO moderately in order to achieve moderately easy rankings.

Need a little clarification. In my brief experience in the SE world it has
always been my understanding that SEs might give some weight to alt
text if it was linked.
I saw Google using alt text instead of the title for anchor text starting about 6 months ago on my site.
Is that what this thread is about? Using alt text for the anchor text in the SERPS?

No just a funny example of the alt tag being something not to be missed using.
