The internet has changed plenty with the military.... Not long ago I had a frequent visitor to one of my sites who was sending news updates from Iraq which I would publish.... He often used them to get information to his loved ones through the site.... I was very surprized at how much time was available for the sergent to use the net....

I think with modern technology and the like, even in war zones sometimes a large part of the time in the military is spent waiting. plus people can't fight all the time. the military is occassionally is known to drug soldiers (http://www.thememoryhole.org/mil/pilot-speed.htm) for peak performance, but that sort of stuff is uncommon.

when I was in the military it was common to go away for a month or two, and every other year there was also a 6 month deployement. despite working a bunch on the deployments (as its sorta hard to leave the submarine) when in port there were still normal working hours, and there are an unlimited amount of menial tasks to accomplish in the military just to burn time between deployments.

a bunch of the military lifestyle is hurry up and then sit around and wait

their pr people send me a ton of email, but most of the stories are not that interesting. I think it would be hard for them to get their ideas seen ahead of yahoo and google because yahoo and google seem to be investing much more into building new products.
