My question is, I currently own http://www.kpeg.com and Im wondering why if I type kpeg in google what I wouldnt be the first result. You would think if a domain name is registered and a website is currently being hosted with that name that it would be the first result. And what is weird I dont see my site listed anywhere on google. Can someone please explain this to me or give me some helpful hints. I have kpeg in the keywords in my html but it still doesnt seem to make a difference.
Thanks,
Nate

there's a lot of factors that go into your ranking. read around some of the articles, and you'll get a good idea.

Randolph is right. There are many many factors that make up the search engine algorithms.
Say the search engines went along with your theory (that kpeg.com should be the first result). What would happen if my site was kpeg-1.com? Should I be listed higher than your site?

Now if you were searchiing for kpeg-1, then yes I would think that the site should be ranked #1. but if searching for kpeg.com then kpeg.com should be the first result, not ABC.com.

How do you suppose that the search engines should deal with the .net, .org, .biz, and other TLDs with that same name?
For example, kpeg.com, kpeg.net, kpeg.org, kpeg.biz, kpeg.info, etc.
Who then should be ranked first? Should the .com (i.e., commercial site) be listed before the .org (non-commercial)?
The best way for them to handle the rankings is just what they're doing now--the site with the best, most comprehensive content on that subject wins. (Or at least that's the way I vision it).

Jobs.com
insurance.com
loan.com
all thought the same thing!
Have you considered ekpeg.com because eloan.com seems to be working.

Damn.. so I guess my strategy of buying the "buy-viagra.com" and then not doing any SEO or even offering viagra isn't gonna work?!!!
Next you'll be telling me I have to go out and actually make a website and come up with some unique content or something...

Sarcasm aside, the bottom line is that search engines care about content, not domain names. If the domain name trumped then I could, to use an extreme example, register "childrens-games.com" and turn it into a porn or gambling site.
Ownership of a domain name does not automatically imply what the content of the domain is. Otherwise Amazon would come up for rivers but not for books, and domain name squatters would control the information on the internet.
Here is the advice you were looking for: submit your site to a bunch of good directories with it's name in the title of your submission, and use the name in the title and content of the site - then you will show up, because then (and ONLY THEN) will you be considered relevant to the term.

You do have kpeg once on your home page, and it's not a very common word. It may be, however, that you don't have any inbound links to your site from any sites already indexed in Google.... aside from the link in your post, which probably hasn't yet been integrated into the database.

Nate,
As most of the replies to your post reflect, there is a lot more to search positioning than domain name, although I will say that I have noticed MSN seems to favor sites that contain the keywords in the domain (you're not there - just looked).
If you are just trying to see if Google has indexed your website, you can use the "site" indicator to see if any pages are there, or type your domain into the search field. Here's the syntax for the site indicator:
site:www.kpeg.com
site:kpeg.com
Either one will work. I checked your domain and see you have 5-7 pages listed in Google, so that's good (it means you're not banned). However, you surely have a lot to do when it comes to SEO if you want to show up in Google for your keywords. That's where everyone else's advice comes in - learn about the basics of SEO and it will quickly become crystal clear why you aren't there.
Good luck!
