I've recently been spotting a few affiliate-type sites which merely have Sponsored Links on them ranking Top 5 on Google for very competitive keywords.
What is the best way to report these sites to Google?

Report them for what? High search engine rankings?

Jill: You're not allowed to have high rankings if you plan to make money of it or are an affiliate, or are competing with me - there is a rule someplace about that, I'm sure... <rummages through W3C standards and Google "Don't be Evil" notes> hmmm - nope can't find it.... ;)
Bottom line, Either they deserve to be their spot or they don't, if they don't, knock them off by being better at SEO than they are.
Once you have reported them to Google (http://www.google.com/contact/spamreport.html), there isn't much we can do about it, and SEW Forum policy clearly states this is NOT a spam reporting service.
I note in passing that Googles spam reporting page does not list "affiliate" as one of the reportable spam types, so you may have to explain your complaint to them without using that term as the basis for your displeasure.

Ah but it does list irrlevance to the search result as a reason for being reported... and a site which lists bunny-boiler-sales sites as a top 5 'relevant' result when one searches for 'doggie pooper scoopers' would be counted as in irrelevant affiliate in my books :D
(PS: That was just a random example in case ya hadn't already figured that out!!)
