Can't believe no one is talking about this yet. I just found out and blogged about it. I'm so excited I can't even type, so no commentary (yet!) Just want to share the GREAT news from Commission Junction's "Network Quality Department". They are taking a stronger stance on parasitic advertising. Thanks CJ!!!

It's a fairly long announcement, so here is the most important paragraph.

"In order to sustain this open marketplace of information, Commission Junction will no longer allow special programs engaged in the purchase of media from ad services that download and install software on an end-user's computer. For special programs currently engaged in such practices, Commission Junction requests that you immediately discontinue such practices. We will continue to monitor such programs to insure that special descriptions are properly updated."

Log-in to CJ to read the rest, then come back here to discuss it!

I don't think anyone's quite translated it into english yet. ;)

Sounds like they're not stopping adware, just prohibiting publishers from buying ads in downloads. Still a positive move.

Looks like it's business as usual for the (approved) publishers who have their own software plugins and downloads.

You are right. I got so excited that I skimmed while I still had my rose colored glasses on.
(Hate it when I do that!)

It's still a step in the right direction - better a step forward than a step backward.

Jeff Molander just blogged about it at Revenews and Todd Crawford from CJ comments and clarifies. http://www.revenews.com/jeffmolander/archives/000710.html
