Hello All,

Recently I have been asked to do some SEO for our Spanish, Deautsch, Italian and French websites.

My issue is as follows;

1. Does wordtracker give me stats for www.google.com or the particular version of Google used in the country where I am optimizing for?

2. Anyone have any tips on optimizing for Europe? Do you target english keywords with translated content on the site?

Furthermore, how can I check which keywords get most searched in Italy for example?

Cheers

One of the best ways to do international / regional keyword research is to use PPC - typically Adwords and Overture. You then use their reports to focus on the keywords to aim for organic optimization.

Also - NEVER just translate a document - words are used differently in different countries - for example, "car rental" in the US/Canada is "car hire" in the UK, and that's just English to English.

What I would do is some competitive research for the area (ie - go find a bunch of sites in the area using DMOZ and localized search engines like Google.it), collecting keywords and concepts as you go, then run an Adwords Campaign for the area.

You may also wish to sub-contract out to an SEO firm in the area - even if it's only for keyword research and copywriting.

It's sometimes a lot of work, but the rewards can be huge.

Cheers,

Ian
