Hi all,

I've a friend who's building a website of sports links, news, and discussions. It's pretty cool, at least to me, and I've kind of helped test some when asked.
To get to the point:
I've done searches on many search engines for "sports links" and no where does his site show. They all bring back the same cast of characters in the same order. None, except maybe yahoo, have anywhere near the links he has. It can't be the content as some hardly have any. He said he's being crawled and he's looked but doesn't know why he's in nowhere land. he doen't have hardly any link backs as it's a new site. You all seem rather skilled in this stuff so I voluntereed to do a little research for him. Any input would be appreciated.
the site is Sports Link Network (http://www.sportslinknetwork.com)

Thanks for your time,

Mr. Hoople :)

Hard to say, given how complex that code is.

But there is something I noticed, which may be nothing. I noticed one of the pages making reference to that site is wordiq.com.

Earlier today, someone else having a problem (I don't recall who) also had a reference (possible backlink) from wordiq.com.

They look like they may be a spam-generator site, but I haven't spent much time evaluating them. They could be legitimate for all I know.

Do you know anything about them?

Neither of us have ever heard of wordIQ. I did a yahoo link back thing last nite after i saw how while lurking around and did'nt see that one. i'll try again. it's got to be something else tho.

Anyone have any ideas?

How old is the site?

The redirects are not a good idea... some hacks may seem like a good idea but recent changes in the search engine algorithms have negated alot of these programs.

he doen't have hardly any link backs as it's a new site.

That's probably the biggest factor, right there. Your friend needs to get backlinks with the anchor text of "sports links", if he hopes to compete for it. The more the better. The more related the better.

Mix it up pick various sport names and do it that way... use sports links, sport links, athletic links etc but also basketball links, etc too.
You want to have say 30-40% for the main term max and the rest closely related and synonyms...
Go get those links....

And get a few to important internal pages as well. Plus, internal linking on the site can be "optimized" especially links from outside the regular global site navigation.

Thanks everyone! I don't believe he knew the importance of link-backs.
