View Full Version : DMOZ Listing In Inappropriate Category

greetings,

I'm a paid member so go easy on me....

I have a website that someone has placed under the Gay Sex/Male Category.

FIRST and FOREMOST I am not either, never have been and never will be.

I am married with a 20 year old daughter and although I am liberal minded I really do not want to be listed in this category. I did not submit this website/blog yet some joker has listed me.......

Should I say nothing and get the traffic and crawls OR ask for myself to be taken out of this category????

Should I just be grateful that I am listed on the ODP ????

Thanks

David

If there is a better category for the site, I would ask to be moved to it. A DMOZ listing is nice and not to be avoided, but you are doing yourself and the directory a favor by requesting to be moved to a category that is better suited for the site.

Unless the site is best suited for this. The listing is probably not intended to be a comment on your personal sexuality, but rather on whether the site is of interest to and relevant for the directory area. If it's not, then it should be moved.

The good news is that it's usually a lot easier to get moved than to get listed in the first place.

Doesn't DMOZ have a link for "Abuse" at the top of most pages now? It's hard not to read your placement in that category as "abuse" if the URL in question has nothing to do with the category, but instead may be interpreted as an attack on your standing as a webmaster.

OK you are right - it's not fair and I agree it is misleading so will request to get it moved.

I am getting a lot of strange traffic from sex sites and really don't need this...

Thank you.

I don't post here just lurk really but felt I needed to ask about this one. I should join in what with being paid up and all that good stuff :)

Davy, the response to the poll is actually none of the above as listed. What I'd do in your place is, as has been suggested, submit a change request - or head over to Resource Zone (http://www.resource-zone.com/) and post a request if it's within their guidelines. Perhaps that way you'll have some feedback.

Thanks Marcia. :) Will do

btw With honesty being the best policy do I now get recommended to be the editor of the Napa Valley Winery category? I have only just applied.

Marcia I've already been there and done that (as they say)

Thanks, jimnoble. Well, it looks like the mystery is solved. There are several current topic blogs involved, but there is one Netscape directory listing that seems to fill the bill, which must be an outdated one.
