View Full Version : Multiple domain names - dilemma

I have 3 domain names that relate to my site.

dn#1 = http://www.fitcareproducts.com
dn#2 = http://www.airfitbackrest.com
dn#3 = http://www.selfinflatingbackrest.com

Initially I registered dn#1 (the name of my company).

Several months later I registered dn#2 and dn#3 (the name of my product) and "parked" them at dn#1. I use dn#2 in all my marketing.

Users can arrive at my site via dn#1, dn#2, or dn#3.
dn#1, dn#2, and dn#3 are being indexed by the main search engines.

All the links that I submit to directories, search engins, and page links on my site, etc. reference dn#2.

Questions: Should I have my host change my "main" domain name from dn#1 to dn#2 since that is the one I always reference? Can the way its set up currently be detrimental to Page Rank or site placement in the search engines?

Thank You!

Hi postUre, and welcome to the forums.

Yep, you can run into problems with the same content showing up for more than one domain name. Parking or pointing isn't enough, if they return 200's, or 302's as happens with some domain parking. In fact I'm just dealing with a site having problems from that.

Use your #2, the one you're marketing, and either eliminate the others altogether or if they've been indexed, redirect them with a 301 redirect to the one you'll use. 301 Permanent Redirect - make sure of that. Not 200, not 302.

Thank you Marcia.

I reviewed my server logs and all the returns are 200 or 304 regardless of which domain you enter my site with.

Do you think I should have my host change my "main domain" name from the dn#1 to the dn#2,,, then set redirects for the dn#1 and dn#3 to redirect to dn#2?

Wil dn#1 and dn#3 need to be "parked" at dn#2?

Can you advise what I need to do to set the redirects,,, or can you recommend a resource where I can learn how?

Thank you,
