Moderator Note: Past discussion of what the API might do as well as the Overture API can be found here: Google To Open Up API To AdWords Customers (http://http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/showthread.php?t=3851). A short SEW story on the launch is also here: Google AdWords API Launched (http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/050127-183506).

Just got the email:

More flexibility, that's what we've all been looking for and yeah that's great news.

Excellent news :)

A lot to wade through but the race is on for developers.

That will give you something to work with Makemetop!

It is good to be given that level of flexibility - for free. I anticipate a raft of really useful programs being built on the back of that (so I'll buy one of them I guess, rather than reinventing the wheel).

If anyone is wondering about possible uses, I could really do with something that does much more exciting reporting and EMAILS the rports out so I don't need to log on QUITE so often.

Dixon.

Define exciting Dixon??

Perhaps we should have a I wish Adwords could do X type of list then developers can pick them off.

Certainly the commercial developers often don't "get" Google so it will be interesting to see what comes to the market and when and if it passes the "so what" test.

Good idea Jim. Here's a few:

The ability to transform all the catagories/ad-groups into alphabetical search term listings so that we can easily mix and match changes with Overture spreadsheets.

Certainly the ability to bulk upload and "migrate" from one account to another

Combining with the Overture API to produce uniform (comparative) management reporting

Combining with decent tracking systems to highlight discrepancies between the clicks Google says they send and those that actually load a whole web page.

I don't know about newly-released ad management programs that integrate the Adwords API, I guess it takes more than a couple of months to engineer industry-new applications (smoothly running I hope). However, there's already a middle-tier product on the market- a PHP library for access to the Adwords server, which grants an easy and bug-free integration with Google. You can check it out here: PHP Adwords APi Lib (http://www.phpadwordsapi.com/)So, the SEM professionals could start the rivalry in new services and new platforms.
