Today, i noticed that Overture/Yahoo is giving advertisers more value at the third, fourth and fifth position than the higher cost first and second position.

If you are positioned as third place, you will show at the top of the right rail and at the top of the bottom search box (as checked via Yahoo)

::example::
1) go to Yahoo
2) type "falcon football"
3) you will see EncoreTickets.com top right rail and top of bottom-of-the-page box

only one domain per listing is "supposed" to show.

If you check the same results at Overture.com, you will also see the listing twice.

Not sure what to think of this. It's almost as if they are giving incentive to spend less money ???

This should be the other way around as the way MSN displays Overture PPC ads. the top two ads appear both at the top and the bottom of listings.

Overture REP ...you lurking??? what's the deal-eo here?

Sebastian –

We’re always lurking. :) Even when you least expect it…we are watching…

Anyway – here’s the deal-eo. As you probably know, our implementations vary for each of our distribution sites (Yahoo!, MSN, etc.) and even for each term. It’s up to each distribution site to decide what mix fits their audience. Since you mentioned Yahoo!, I’ll talk about them in particular.

Back in February, Yahoo! expanded the number of possible Overture listings to as many as four paid results on the top of the page, three on the bottom of the page and four down the “right rail”. The listings that are displayed at the bottom of the page are repeated at the top of the “right rail”. Of course, the number of displayed listings will be different depending on the term and can change at any time depending on a variety of things.

The “why” part is easy – in the end we just want to provide greater visibility for a larger number of advertisers.
