While Arelis may offer a good product for finding competitors inbound links it is also being used to spawn a mass of directories that people are using to make small incomes from adsense.
I doubt whether it will last too long, and have heard Google is aware of them so at this stage it may be a waste of time.
I am curious if anyone else has noticed this influx of directories created to make money via AdSense and other advertising.

I hadn't thought of creating a directory just for adsense. I'm not sure why Google would have a problem with putting adsense on a bunch of these directories if they are making money from them.
Here's a question... what constitutes a spam directory? Somebody who regurgitates DMOZ listings? There are hundreds of those.

The free php directory script is being way over done also at present. Spam directories everywhere...
This is only going to stuff things for a lot of legitimate directories. Each directory that ends up existing, will basically be human edited by Google for inclusion / rejection from their DB.
Yes, Google have cut their own throat with adsense. Make a spam directory, regurgitate DMOZ and put adsense on it, the webmaster makes money, Google makes money, but Google now has another directory to edit / delete from its DB, thus it was all just a waste of time.
Isn't it funny how the world goes round?
