So, I'm a newbie site owner that is very high on the website (http://www.breastconsult.com) that I developed and thought all I needed to do was get it listed in the Yahoo directory and then traffic would follow. I even got it listed in zeal (and looksmart by default) all by myself. But people haven't been coming and I was mildly depressed through yesterday.
And then I spent the best $79 I've ever spent and purchased the SEO Book. I learned so much about SEO and the behind the scenes work that you rarely hear about (except here).
So here's my question: I'm diligently pursuing directories and others to list my site. How long does google take to re-index the web - that is, when should I expect to see my website start moving up?

Google is constantly reindexing the web. Active portions of the web may be visited several times a day. Less active portions may be spidered once or twice a month or so.
Earlier this year they appeared to have created a filter on new links / new sites to where it takes a while for your rankings to really go up in competitive markets (especially if your site is new and does not have much linkage data pointing at it yet)...thats part of the reason for my 90 day guarantee thingie...it will take most people nearly that length of time to start seeing decent movement in Google in competitive markets.
Don't forget to mix up your link text using various different discriptive link text combinations when you get your inbound links. Some directories will only let you use your official site name and some are a bit more lenient.
Also keep in mind some of the other things you can be doing to boost your site: writing articles, participating in communities, logical link swaps, asking for links, etc.
best of luck with your site and thanks again for the kind statements...you made my day :)
