For a site, website system (wysisyg), custom design, training (to use the software), hosting, SEO (with monthly management) and "basic link building"...

how does a $5,145 start-up fee and $215 a month sound?

$200 is probably not going to get you a ton of ongoing support, link building, and SEO.

the numbers are somewhat arbitrary outside of knowing the competitive market you will participate in or seeing some of the work quality from the vendor.

I found the company on http://www.seoconsultants.com/. They were only 1 of 4 companies here in FLorida. I spoke with them and they are the only company of about a half dozen I've contacted that even responded to me. I guess SEO companies aren't hurting for business. Shrug.

Am I allowed to post their URL??

Ok, can anyone tell me the general price range for SEO - with optimization needed for 1 or 2 pages, small business, one have 2 key phrases we're interested in...I know that's vague, but I ran the above numbers by my boss and he thinks that's far too much money. I think it's a lot too, but I looked on another site and it says they charge $700 - $3000 every month! What the heck can require that much money?

the price depends on how competitive the marketplace is and how good the seo is at selling their services. when I was totally new I did a semi adultish site for a one time $300 fee and it ranked well for quite a while, but many SEOs who are good at SEO can make far more from making their own sites than they would make working for clients.

I have got a check in the mail for over a grand for one month of affilate revenue from a page that I did not even actively promote. if you are thinking a few thousand dollars is too much to spend on SEO then perhaps you do not see some of the other opportunities SEOs have.

as far as the price goes it really depends on how competitive the marketplace is and what overhead the seo firm has.

a $5,000 downpayment can get you a decent amount of seo off the start if the company does not have high overhead.

I do not know if $5000 is too much or not (in Florida)…The all I know, is that in my country we request less than $2000 packages that includes Web Design, SEO & free 1 year hosting for example.
That’s ironic, but it is true…

Price ranges will vary, like stated, depending on your industry and how competitive you want to be. Using forms of PPC as well as a time factor based on organic SEO to kick in, you may find a combination of those 2 starts.

Regarding price, we are in Canada, pricing clearly stated, but we have overhead.
Also keep in mind if your looking at a $2000.00 spend, minus PFI, small PPC budget, optinal purchase of textlink brokers....etc you may find those doesnt go to far.

So now you build your links....if you do them you have to put the time into doing that, if you pay some, reputable to do it for you, you will have to pay at least a variable rate ...somewhere, If my company was to do that, it would be 100.00 CAD per hour. That being said, because we have staff and the cost of running a business and obviously a mark up in the price, so me, as the corporate owner....I make a living as well. The last few points there you can put what ever price range you want to apply to it,but in the long run you only get what you pay and i not saying those who charge the most offer the best service, like any business ventures you want to move into make sure you do your re-search first then contact the companies directly, not only by e-mail but call them, if they dont have the time to pick up the phone or return a cold call called into them, you dont want to use them.

When we do campaigns we cover:

PFI - not all rec's have to be taken, but there is a few mandatory
PPC - optional, we have run campaigns from 2k per month to 150k a month
LINKS - manadatory
SEO on site - usually mandatory

Links and SEO have to have an hourly fee attached to that for someone to do it.

PPC - depending on size, there ia a setup fee and a monthly management fee attached to that for someone to do it.

PFI- one time fee

Now those are basic points but you can see how that might start to add up in price.

Cheers
