I've recently completed a site for a recruitment agency - about 3 - 4 months ago and the site doesn't seem to turn up in google when one types in Malone Recruitment which is the name of company..THis is a real worry cause I have marked up page to appear well with the keywords real estate recruitment and real estate jobs, media jobs, media recruitment etc and it hasn't got a hope in hell of a natural listing in Australia market if it can't even find Malone Recruitment. This is the first dynamic site that I have been invloved with which a friend took care of the db. The index page has a htm extension and all other pages have php extension tho no massive query strings on page urls... Only 4 pages have dynamic data (jobs + candidate pages)
When I type in malonerecruitment as one word in google australia
google comes up with the url which means google must have sum sort of record of page..ANY help would be greatly appreciated as client is getting testy and I don't blame her..

#1 - I don't see "Malone Recruitment" in your title, hence why your search is not delivering it.
#2 - The site has no backlinks recorded as yet. So even if you have been capturing backlinks, until the search engines update the index, you want move on that facet of your SEO campaign.
#3 - The filename extension has nothing to do with SEO. You can put .xyz and the page will still be indexed. Your URL's are static, with the exception of the couple that have parameters within them, but they are non-essential.
Solution!
You need links my friend, and lots of them. You have the site, you have the content, you have a nice CSS navigation menu, you just don't have the stuff to finally convince the engines to like your site. http://www.directorylist.org (http://www.directorylist.org/) has lots of them for you to help yourself and get your site listing. If you search this forum, or just look up at the "directory submissions 101" thread highlighted on the homepage, then you wil find ample links to help you along.
Otherwise, you may want to hire an SEO to take care of some of the work for you.

Thanx for the tip Anthony...I thought backlinks might have sumthin to do with this ( I've got about three at the moment with a page rank of four I thought this would suffice for something at least...Strange how google can be inconsistant I had a site recently which had about the same amount of links and it did reasonably well with rankings..

Welcome to SEF forums, jenkin.
First off, Google is *very* important but not the only search engine so diversify your efforts for the sake of pleasing the client. You might get into another quicker than turning up at Google and there are some local to you that might provide some targeted traffic as well.
Navigation
Nice site you've got there, but the drop-downs in that side menu don't work with Javascript disabled - and sometimes IE gets a little testy with JS anyway if the browser cache hasn't been cleared or the system is running low on resources and needs rebooting. Plus JS links are not good for search engines. You want navigation that works for everyone.
Fix the navigation and/or add additional plain, unobtrusive text links along the page bottoms as an alternate means of navigation. Also, a good site map can be a big help - even Google recommends using site maps.
Page Title
For the title, it's generally best not to put the company name first but in this case, since it includes a keyword, to please the client I'd personally put it up front, use fewer keywords in the title and end it with the location, keeping it down to around 9 words or 60-65 characters.
Meta Description Tag
Make the meta description more concise - and again, to keep the client happy, put the company name (and maybe the location) toward the beginning with the best, broadest keywords following if she is getting antsy about not turning up for the company name. You can use the chosen keyword phrases at the beginning of the meta description on the applicable interior pages as well as the beginning of the page titles on those pages.
Bold Text
If that red text is bolded, there's too much of it; if so, it's diluting any possible boost for the phrases that need to be bolded.
<Hn> Headings
You need some <h1> and <h2> headers using keyphrases with paragraphs of text following on the page. Those emphasize what the major points of the page are - visitors do tend to read by scanning.
Directory Submissions
If you haven't already, submit to a couple of the major directories that are considered to be authoritative.
Here's the instruction page for submission to .au Yahoo
Yahoo Directory Australia (http://au.help.yahoo.com/help/au/docs/docs-02.html)
Make sure to pick the right category, use only the company name in the title submitted (especially if you submit for free), and no "sales" copy in the description submitted - just the objective factual description, kept to between 11-16 carefully chosen words so there's nothing left for an editor to edit out. Same with ODP, which is volunteer manned so it can take a long time but may not be too bad with a local category like you'd need. Submit to the proper category in .au local - or you could try the proper topical category, that'll be your choice.
Where it does not belong unless they have several offices:
http://dmoz.org/Regional/Oceania/Australia/Business_and_Economy/Employment/Recruiters/desc.html
Follow the guidelines carefully and make sure to pick the right category that's the closest fit.
Getting into one of those should get the site crawled nicely, especially Yahoo. Also submit to others, as recommended, but choose them carefully.

Thanx very much for that info Marcia..I have submitted to dmoz and yahoo already..I had a feeling that the title was a little long on sum pages will get on to that asap..I think you have a point there about the nav and H1 tags...the nav is in layers within a list and is hidden..this won't affect the way se follow my links will it? <edit: just read the article that was pointed out and will definately look at implementing a.l.a css nav..> Just in case I am gonna place those text links along the btm for good measure anyway.. I picked up an seo book and it mentioned that using 1x1pisel spacer gifs for links can allow a search engine to follow all my links as well which might be better for presentation not missing all tof that anchor text
