I am slowly being won over by the Bing TV ads - the latest in the grocery story really hit the spot

I missed them - suppose they're on YouTube somewhere?

Aussie, I'm shocked.

The "off on a wild tangent" angle has been done SOOOO many times. It's not clever nor funny.

Worse is I truly don't think this is anyone's core issue with search. Google top results are not tangential nor totally unrelated. - IF anything that happens to both G and B when the user has a poorly constructed query. Like "cash".

Worse even still is the analogy used does not drive home the central point of Bing. A decision engine.

Nobody knows what they mean by a Decision Engine.
Go ahead and ask 20 casual internet users what a decision engine is. Nobody will know what the hell you're talking about.
The analogy needs to be simple, clear and funny.

A runaway skier on one ski zipping through the forest with Bing maps telling him - Go left, Go right as he evades the trees. (you could send him through all sorts of scenarios in which he is viewing is mobile to make the decision using Bing) The final shot shows him fireside in his comfortable home at his PC, looking up new skis and the Bing Decision engine showing him the best ones that don't fall off.

Once the get the audience to understand the difference between a typical search engine and a decision engine. Then you can move the conversation on to sub issues, like time sink holes from poor searches.

Okay that was off the top of the head in 10 seconds with hardly a half cup of jo in me. Yet I'm confident MS spent many months and million$ on a high end firm to come up with this tired off the mark cliché of an ad campaign.
