Hello - Here is the dillema...

I know having a URL with relevent keywords is important.

The website im working on is "REDGroup.ca" short for "Real Estate Design Group". I have both domains "REDGroup.ca" and "RealEstateDesignGroup.ca".

Since the latter is quite long, the business cards and all promotional material list "RedGroup.ca" as the GoTo website.
However, I wanted to submit "RealEstateDesignGroup.ca" Into the search engines because of the strong, relevant keywords it has.

If someone organicly searches for Real Estate Design, I would like the website to go to "RealEstateDesignGroup.ca" but then cloke the domain to read the shorter, more astheticly pleasing - REDGroup.ca.

What are your thoughts?

1. Is this a good idea?
2. How would I make this work in my benifit for solid SEO placement?
3. Are their any negitives to doing this?

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks :)

Only use one URL for your site.

Redirect all the other domains to the main URL.

exactly use the short ones for cards etc and then just have them 301ed to the main more keyword friendly longer domain

I agree.. so be sure to 301 redirect all pages of REDGroup.ca to their equivalent page in RealEstateDesignGroup.ca .

Thanks for the replies so far!

What about the idea of cloaking the longer domain with the shorter domain? is that feasible?

The reason I ask is because the longer domain is harder to remember, and doesn't reinforce the brand as much as the smaller, neater domain.

It may look like a scam to some if you use REDGroup.ca on the business cards and a potential client types that in and gets a redirect to RealEstateDesignGroup.ca

You can optimize the site to make it clear that RED is an abbreviation for Real Estate Design.

On the other hand, I personally only register alternative domains as a convenience to the end user. I've done it both ways where the shorter domain redirects to the longer, and vice versa.
