I am building a new site for someone that has a pang rank of 5 and also has google sitelinks.
We plan to point this domain to a new hosting company and are worried that we will lose the page rank or even more importantly we dont want to lose the site links
Is this likley to happen if we move hosts
Cheers in advance for any advice

If you 301 redirect the domain you'll retain the Pagerank. You'll possibly lose the sitelinks though as this is query specific and relates to the domain.

stick with 301 redirection for all your pages and ensure they point to the appropriate correct pages in the new domain. better to go with the checklist and keep updating on the changes in the SERP. don't block the indexed pages with robots in your old domain.

make sure the sitelinks have the same pages to find... 301 them to pages with the sitelink titles in title tags and similar content

Right thansk for your help
But forgive my ignorance but im not sure what a 301 redirect is.
Just to give you some background the domain is registered with Network Solutions, it is a .com. I beleive that the domain them points at a UK webhost's dns servers. The original website is pure html. The new site is built using DotNetNuke CMS and is asp.net running on a Microsoft Webserver. The new site will be running on a US webhost.
So I was going to build the newsite and then update the dns with Network Solutions to point to our new US webhost.
Does 301 redirect work with microsoft webservers and how would one do this when the entire structure and the site will change.
Thanks for your help so far
Cheers

A 301 redirect tells a search engine that a page has been moved permanatly to a new location.
If you're unsure about them it'll be best to contact your hosting company giving them a list of old URLs and the new URLs that they have to be redirected to.

Thanks excellent but i am very confused.
Just to make things clear the domain is the same and just the hosting company is being changed. However so is the technology as this site will be dynamic.
So, if I have got this right any of the same or similar pages on the old site should use a 301 redirect to the new one. Such as the home page etc. How does this work then if the domain isnt pointing to the old hosting company then?
Surley its the old hosting company that would have to set up the 301 redirects. But if we are not hosting with them would they be prepared to do this.

No, because the domain would resolve with the new hosting company. Any traffic at all to your domain is then sent to their IP address.

Oh I get ya If I type in www.example.com/contact.asp it will send the request to my new host and then use the 301 redirect to resolve my new and slightly different www.example.com/contactus.aspx
Is that right, so its my new hosting company that sets up the 301s

Yes that's correct. I think you would be best talking everything through with them, any half decent hosting company would be able to help you out getting all of this organised.
