What is the best technique for indexing a new site in google?
I have been using social bookmarking with good success, but I was wondering what everyone else is doing.

submit to yahoo directory and botw directory....
sign up for google webmaster tools (http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/www.google.com/webmasters/tools) they will spider site and show how they see you
One natural link from a good source will do.
But as AussieWebmaster says use Yahoo and BOTW. Don't be afraid to use DMOZ either.
You can be listed in 48 hours if you choose your category carefully.

>You can be listed in 48 hours if you choose your category carefully
so what's your technique for getting listed at DMOZ?

get a backlink from a site which has a higher page rank - more than 4. You will get indexed soon. Its what I have experienced. Or you can also go for dmoz submission.

I released a fairly small site and went thru Google webmaster tools and went thru their verification process and it was indexed (in my mind) fairly quick, couple days. I would have to agree with getting a good link from Yahoo, BOTW, Joeant or dmoz.

Thanks aks2008 and Troy. Yes, Google will index a site in 10 minutes if you get a link from a good page that gets spidered at the right moment;-) I was hoping for LeeC to give us an answer to this:
>Don't be afraid to use DMOZ either. You can be listed in 48 hours if you choose your category carefully.
So give it up, LeeC, how do you get indexed at DMOZ in 48 hours by selecting the right category? Do you mean "find a category that actually has an active editor and where the editor is also not one of your competitors"? If so, how do you do that? If not, then what do you mean?

Backlinks are the best way, forum sig links and blog comments are easy to get - but be carful not to spam. Good quality links are better, about the only time PR is genuinely useful is in getting sites spidered quickly and deeply.
If you've got some newsworth stories or articles on your site try submitting to Digg or Stumbleupon - but again, avoid submitting if it's not realisticly good content.
I've also seen people plaim that using pinging services works well - http://pingomatic.com/ although I've not tested it myself.

Part of the reason I like this job is how much I learn everyday from the users here... new and old they all have different perspectives and some great insights I would not have thought of

Hi Again,
Best way to get good traffic & high ranking ?
Search engine optimization (SEO) is your starting point for getting traffic. All SEO means is making your pages human and Google friendly.
Your website needs soe friendly search engines. The first criterion (often overlooked) is to have great content! Your goal is to build traffic. Why would anyone even want to come to your website if there's nothing interesting there to see?
Your pages need to be built around specific keyword phrases that people use to find sites like yours. So you have to do some keyword work on your site.
You have to do some link building process for your websites:
Link building methods:
1. Submission to directories
2. Article Directory Submissions
3. Blog Comment
4. Forum Postings
5. Link exchanges
Use this process we can get traffic easily....
regards,
jopson.

Hi,
Here's what I usually do:
Create a html sitemap (link to all pages on your website)
Create a XML sitemap
Create a Google webmaster account
Tag your site
Submit your XML sitemap
Let your friends know about the site in social networking sites
Get some friends to blog about it
Run a small budget Adwords campaign
I find this to work pretty well. It is nothing more exciting than to find out Google has spidered your site through webmaster tools. Now, you know Google has taken notice, let the SEO activities BEGIN.:)
Cheers...

...just a trick of the trade...
You can force Google to index your site within a few hours by adding "AdSense for Search" to your site.
Also... believe it or not, it helps with serps.

Well, for now, put me on the "or not" side ;-). Do you have any examples?

Create a informative rich content that describe your topic very excellently
Have links that are natural and not to fool search engines.
Make your site accessible that is every page can be easily accessible from at least one static text.

Yeah great content rules. Build it and they will come! :-)
Or maybe the part where you work just as hard at pushing that great content is just as important as the great content per se, because nobody will link to great content that is sitting in the corner (and most idea don't go viral)?
