Hi I need some expertise help with regards to keywords. My client has a component for joomla that makes website's compatible with the iphone.

Im trying to look for some quality keywords, but im having trouble coming up with anything, out of the below what do you think?, could I do better?

Keyword Searches Results KEI x 1000
iphone 5954 386000000 91.8397
iphone compatible3 18900000 0.0005
iphone friendly 3 8080000 0.0011

As you can see Iphone is out, there is no way i would get a listing in the top ten nor would i want to, nobody looking for a iphone comptatible website component is going to type iphone.

Hope you can help

why this one aussie?, why keep it so general?, when picking keywords don't we have to think of the market and what the customer would search for, obviously it is a business/personal website owner wanting to make sure there website can be viewed from ever so popular iphone.

Hi Neroma,

I would suggest you don't look at KEI. It's simply confusing. Aaron wall (from seobook) and dan thies (known to be a keyword expert) have mentioned before that KEI is useless and I agree with them :-).

I don't remember how exactly it is computed, but I think KEI does use the number of competing sites for a certain keyword to estimate the competition, which is a fairly poor measure. Say you have 10,000,000 sites who have the keyword somewhere on them that won't mean those sites are actually optimized and competing for that term (especially if keywords are bound to appear on tons of pages because of being used in every day language).

The top 10 (or top 20) of a keyword with 1,000,000 search results can be more competitive than the top 10 of a keyword that has (that happens to have!) 10,000,000 search results.

And what's going on beyond the top50 isn't really interesting as your goal is getting in the top10 or top20 anyway.

So anyway..don't use KEI but learn to analyze the SERPs by looking at their link authority and how well they're optimized for a certain keyword, etc. (it's really not as hard as it might sound).
