I'd like to hear people's feedback as to the results that they have seen when having RSS feeds housed on a page within your main domain or using services like feedburner. Just some high-level information would be great. Things like:

- Do the number of subscribers vary?
- Do you get more traffic from one or the other?
- Does it add to link pop at all?
- What topics are most likely to result in a subscription?

Any help on these (or anything else you've seen) would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Your RSS feed should reside on your domain. Create a Feedburner account and provide Feedburner with your site's RSS feed. Feedburner is an aggregator but it doesn't produce an RSS feed in XML for your site alone.

Your RSS feed should reside on your domain.

What I understand by this is that the XML file for RSS should reside on the server and the link of RSS should be the one assigned by Feedburner or the one from my domain?

Correct me if I am wrong, I am new to this creating an RSS feed stuff.

I would suggest both, make your feed available via Feedburner but also offer the option for users to access it via your site. Allowing only traffic via Feedburner is in some ways driving traffic to Feedburner and not your site. For that reason I would offer both options.;)

Tracking subscribers through feedburner is pretty easy - and you can also track subscribers through GOogle Webmaster Central. I tend to trust Feedburner for subscribers THROUGH Feedburner adn GWC for subscribers to my feed (w/o using feedburner.)

I'm not sure how those numbers jive - I sorta just add them together and feel real proud of myself (which isnt right but is great for the ego!)

I'm also not monetizing my personal blog - so it's less of a "big deal."

How helpful was that - okay not at all probably - I think i need to go to bed!

Feedburner is no doubt the best.
