ok, as i follow the name bombing thread, i did an experiment where I created a page to compete with a local competitor. Below is what i did, the results ...and my request for feedback from the group?

what i did:

- created a page in my domain that clearly outlines the differences between my company and company XYZ.

- titles, tagged and developed content with optimization in mind.

- titled the page, "Company XYZ - Compare {my company} with Company XYZ on Price and Service"

- linked to the page inside many of my own internal pages. (plain text links)

the results:

- within less than one week google found the page, indexed it and i now come up #2, immediately after the competitor, when searching for their company name in google.

Now, the other company is angry claiming we are using their name to boost rankings. While i am pleased with the placement, there is nothing wrong with me building a page that compares our two companies allowing the consumers to decide... right?

especially since:

- my comparison page links to them (boosting their rankings since our content is obviously compariable)

- there is no negative or derogatory information. only facts.

When i saw "nameBombing", i immediately thought of this example.

a whole new industry within the seo community is about to go mainstream :)

you can probably get on the first page of the results for almost any competing site name or persons name in your industry if you want to while using minimal effort.

hmmm.... wonder why more people don't do it?

it seems natural that you would want to appear whenever someone searches for your competitors name ...at least just to be give a shot at the business.

yet, whenever i search for random company names, i am not seeing any competitor sites.

can you say new "seo niche"?

:)

most people do not think that way.

I think most business cloak themselves in a fantasy world where

competition = what competition -or-
competition = they are evil -or-
competition = scrw the competition

most would never think of placing a comparison page up for fear of losing business to the competition.

Sounds like a tactic inviting a lot of court activity. :)
