Hi There - I want to install wordpress at my domain. I downloaded the software, but it doesn't include the database. I can't begin to figure out how to set it up. Does anyone have any ideas. I tried to contact a few developers and haven't gotten any responses. I had thought that the installation would be easy and know that I read somewhere on their site that you could pay $10.00 per year to get it setup to reside at your domain. Now of course, I can't find that on their site anywhere. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone could recommend a different Blog that might be easier to install, that would be great!! Thanks, Beth :)

I use blogger and it is really simple to host on your own server

Your host should have the database information somewhere on your control panel. Better yet, check the control panel to see if it has an auto Wordpress installation option as many hosts have added install routines for the most popular packages.

If you don't have an auto install option, Wordpress's detailed instructions (http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Detailed_Instructions) are pretty straightforward and cover most common server configurations.

As Jim said your host should offer a wide variety of options for setting up a blog and db in your control panel. Some hosts even offer "auto" setup options. If not you might try one of these:

http://wordpress.org/hosting/

You want to save the information provided by and contained in the control panel (ID db name password and so on) to refer to when you customize settings. Also keep in mind that it's best to use a file named blog on the root and not the root itself.

You can get help with installation for free, as per the offer made on the WP Codex - and at the host of your choice, it doesn't even have to be hosted at one of their recommended ones.

Personally, my preference would be to install through Fantastico on Cpanel hosting, so it's easier to update when there's an upgrade (like there just was to WP2.3).

Hi There - Well I went with blogger and got that set up pretty easily. Now I am just working on Customization. There is documentation on this, although it is pretty technical related to editting the html. I am not able to adjust the template as indicated. I was wondering if anyone knows of a developer/designer who could help me make the blogger blog look more like my site. I want the visitors to be able to get back to my main site. They say you can drag and drop and all sorts of stuff, but that doesn't seem to work. I did get the site set up on my primary url, which was good. Thanks in advance for any advice. :) -Beth

What webhost are you with? If Yahoo, or anyone with Yahoo, I have gotten around all the problems and would like to help: natespost.com/index.php/install-wordpress-on-yahoo-server/

You need to give wordpress 3 things ;-
1.Database name
2.Table name
3.dbserver website link

Do this and wordpress will do the rest. You can test this on any free web host like atwebpages.com
