Marcus Frind gets a great article in the New York Times today with details of how his dating site PlentyOfFish.com has become a $10 Million a year site and it does not sell memberships!!!

They make the money from ads... including Google ads... so move over ShoeMoney there is a new king of AdSense...

lol... and he only puts in 10 hours a week to keep the site running.

The article in the NYT is well worth the read! (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/13/business/13digi.html?_r=3&ex=1357880400&en=9a69f05cdc551c11&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&oref=slogin&oref=slogin&oref=slogin)

It's surprising to see that Match.com and other subscription dating sites have survived free competition.

Facebook's marketing guru said at the Kelsey Conference that they dominate the 18-34 demographic. With their roots in universities, it's tough to imagine younger people subscribing to a dating site rather than using Facebook to make friends.

Any thoughts on the future of vertical search engines in dating?
