how do i find out who is linking back to me. i recently used a link popularity check bestcatalog.net/link_popularity/ but had a link popularity of 0? does that mean no one is linking to me. that can't be right cos i'm listed on a few directories as well as other sites that are similar to my site so how can i have a link popularity of 0 and how do i find out who exactly is linking back to me? thank you.
Create an xml sitemap, setup a Google Webmaster Account as well as a Yahoo Site Explorer account. Both of those free services might provide more accurate information. :)
best of luck!

i have a google webmaster account. i didn't realize they have that info. i will go and look. also i type my url in yahoo site explorer to do a search and it came up empty. said the url was not in their index. does that mean that the yahoo spider has not indexed my site yet? thanks
In Google Webmaster Tools go to Dashboard > Links > Pages with external links and then click on the numbers on the right side of the page. There you should find sites linking to each page.
Best of luck!:)

Use Yahoo Site Explorer to find your backlinks, it's the best around.
Also look up (at Google) the domain as a text search because there could be instances that haven't been picked up as links.

You can search using the link delimiter in Google or Yahoo
for exmample you can use the search term link:blogspot.com or your site in some search engines.

You can try that method but, I've found that it doesn't provide accurate information in many cases.

You are right it is one of the methods to check on things with a specific site that is not your own. You can also search usenet for your site as an additional trick to add to the google webmaster thing. These would be in addition to the google webmaster tools thing. Most decent hit counters with statistics will show where your visitors are coming from, which sites.

Just wanted to say thanks for the info. It's nice to not have to ask the questions and find the answers in a simple search.
BRAVO!
