Does anyone on here know of a tool (freeware or paid for) that you could input your top 50 (eg) keywords into and it would record your ranking position for that keyword on a daily basis? I'd like to see what positive/negative effects my efforts at on-page SEO are having on my rankings, may have been asked before, I did a search but couldn't find anything...

Thanks in advance.

It is not a good idea to run anything like this on a daily basis. In fact, it would be a bad idea to run this kind of software on a daily basis. Technically this kind of software is against Google's terms of service. When you think of SEO, think long term as in weeks, months and years.

Don't use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our Terms of Service. Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Gold™ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google.

On a monthly basis you might try ibusinesspromoter dot com.

best of luck!:)

Google object to an automated research tool to see if the optimisation I am spending time on is having a positive effect?

Automated rank checking does use Google resources to return results to something other than a user.

If every site out there checked rankings on a daily basis, Google would serve billions of results to software and not users.

If you want to use software like this, I suggest only running it monthly and not daily or weekly.

Best of luck to you!:)

I use a page rank and back link checking tool at Digital Point.

I don't think many webmasters will be checking every day, I also think Google has effectively, unlimited bandwidth so technically I think checking every day or two wouldn't phase Google but we shouldn't be that obsessive.

On the other hand, Google should be happy to occupy that much mindshare. Who really worries about AOL, MSN, Yahoo, or Ask SERPs?

just use Aaron Wall's rank checker tool, make sure your personalization preferences are set around 5-7 seconds so you don't flood the search engines.

The worst thing that will happen is they'll lock you out from doing searches for an hour or so - but that's usually only if you're checking a large amount of keyword phrases.

of course, use at your own risk.

Digital Point and Rank Checker are the tools I use - I would use Rank Check and export and merge to keep a running position check - DP has daily weekly and monthly changes but you need to store if you plan on going beyond a month
