ok guys. Well, I have just noticed that one of my competing sites is indexed SEPERATELY twice in the search results.
For the same site, same page, same URL?
Once in position 9, and then on page 2 they are in position 12??
This is really bugging me!!
Shall I report it? Is it Googles fault? Has anyone else had this?
thanks

I don't think I've ever come across that. Is it exactly the same URL?

precisely the same URL, site and description!! I have now reported it to Google. i have never seen this before.
here is the proof...
look at result 9
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=sheffield+jobs&meta=
look at result 12 (this is page two of the above keyword search)
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=sheffield+jobs&hl=en&pwst=1&start=10&sa=N
Talk about striking it lucky  Double Indexed

That's definitely weird, same cache date and all. Sergey must have burped.

I like the analogy!!
:D
On a serious note though....it doesnt make big G look very good! duplicating results  I wonder if this is happening for other sites

Hi,
I noticed exactly the same case in August. I saw a page indexed twice for the same keyword. After one or two weeks I think, the results have changed and now the website seems to be indexed correctly.
It was very strange and nobody have seen this before. So I can confirm that it's possible, I think it's a google bug, I saw sometimes strange behaviors in their index since several months.
So if you have a reply from Google, let us know what happened in their index.

It's on the main Google that way, too. My guess is that it might have something to do with the "local" search box that's on the top of the first page.
Just a guess, but it sure does seem like a bug.

It seems Google has actually answered my support ticket and fixed the problem
It had been like that for a while so I dont think it was Google that Identified it and fixed it on its own
It seems Google has actually answered my support ticket and fixed the problem How do you work that out, i've just tried the links and it still shows duplicate for me?

Hmm.
I dont see them anywhere on page two anymore. but they have moved up to P6 on page one.
Im sure google knows my key search terms and IP and messes around with my head on a daily basis for sh**s and giggles :D

I've definitely seen similar things on ranked pages for my results before, I don't know if things are just being sorted after a dance, they have been gone after 2-3 days when it has happened. This is for same page, too, not just similar page further in... It has been some months since I've seen anything like that though...

Google seems all over the place at the moment with this bizarre PR updates going on penalising a lot of genuine sites
They are back, double indexed.... and they have gone up 4 places on P2 results :(
and I have gone down 4 places.....very annoyed doesnt sum it up :D

It looks fixed in the US but, you are in luck!
Matt Cutts is looking for bugs but especially "international bugs"
You might post your issue here:

Thanks Beu
I missed that blog page of Matts!
I have posted the comment to it so hopefully this issue will get sorted now, because another chap, 'Hugo Guzman' has also highlighted the exact same problem about 10 comments up but without any examples available and Matt said he was going to look into it :)
Thanks Beu

Great, I don't see your post just yet! By posting there, when Matt asks you can be pretty certain the issue will be investigated!

It's been a while since I had gotten the double index, but I was really ticked, about the same time I broke top ten for a highly contested term, I had been on for oh 9 months, and it sat there at a beautiful #9 for a week, then PLUMMETED down to a #43 and sat there for like 4 weeks... I was just happy to go back to my usual #17 when it was all done. I've eventually gone to 12-13, but this was a very gradual climb. The Black Monday dive to #43 really sucked...
...I'd like to blame the double index weirdness on whatever prompted the nose dive - it just lets me sleep at night ...

Thanks for the info beu. I'm not aware of that issue until I stumble here in this forum. That issue is really weird.
