Hi,

I am webmaster of a website. I have some query related to link bombing. What to do when irrelevant sites or adult blog links to your website. If no. of links is less than 10 then it will not create problem but if there are 1000 (thousands) links pointing to your site then what action required.

Thanks,

I have a few problems in this area, although it is annoying it can do you no damage as long as you do not link to them

Hi!

It is blackhat technique. That is capable of decreasing a competitor’s rank in the Google Search Engine without touching his website. Google Bowling as a victim, but if you should have any evidence that a competitor is trying to Google bowl your website, I would recommend to contact your lawyer to take care of this.

To be honest don't worry you cant be penalized for links pointing to you only external links you place on your site. If they where recips., as in you link back to them, then you have an issue, but as you cant be in control of who links to you, only the links placed on your site, Google will not penalize you unless it's extreme.

Why?
Well it would be to easy for your competitors just to link you to as many links as they can find, and trust me it could be a lot more than a few thousand, and you would drop in the results. Google knows this believe it or not. If this happened to everyone but spammers Google would return irrelevant results of just spam sites.

You always have to think whats in it for Google and would this help Googles relevance. At the end of the day thats all their interested in they are a business that has to return relevant results or they will lose money and customers.

The only thing that will happen is that all those links will either add very little or no equity so they will help you but they will be devalued as irrelevant.

IT COULD HURT if you have no links back from relevant sites.
Just increase the amount of relevant links back if you are really worried but you should be doing this any way :)

Hope this puts your mind at rest

"I would recommend to contact your lawyer to take care of this."

And who would you sue all those blog comments, dirs that have had your link submitted annoyomusly. Please.

If you think you are losing results due to this first think -

1.have you updated your site recently
2.been penalized by an update/personal eval/algo.
3.Do you have unquie content or just copied/scrapped crap.
4.Are all the links pointing back on the same C class as your site as this would be the only way it could effect you. Sorry should have included that in the above post.
5.Use black hat technqiues.
6.cloaking done wrong and unacceptable.

Just because you smell a fart doesn't mean the guy next to you did it. You have to look at all the factors if you lose results not just o well spammers are linking to me it must be that.

If however wiki/amazon or ebay was spamming you by providing thousand of links back to you that didn't have rel="nofollow" than by all means contact your lawyer :D
