Hi all,
I have just started to optimise a new site for search engines, and need some advise on the search phrases. The site sells backing tracks for guitar players.
If I use phrases like:
- guitarist backing tracks
- rock backing tracks
- blues backing tracks
- 60's guitarist backing tracks
- lead guitarist backing tracks
etc. etc.
Do search engines see this as all "... backing tracks" keywords and
therefore see it as spamming on the "backing tracks", or is it ok to use
phrases like that, as they are seen as different phrases?
Thanks for any advice in advance.
Peter

I would ask the client. He should know what terms people use when they talk about his product. Those are the same terms you should target.
Best of luck!:)

- lead guitarist backing tracks To answer your question about repeating those phrases, excessive use of the exact phrase over and over again on the page isn't a good thing. Use the words "naturally" in the text, but worked in so it's user friendly copy, and limit the use of the exact-matched phrases on the same page so it doesn't seem unnatural and over-done.
As the copy is written, use variations in the word order, since people search all different ways, and look around for different ways people in your target market would refer to the same things.

Marcia always give great advice.... repetition of the same phrase can get you problems but blues backing tracks, lead backing tracks etc work
but occasionally dropping backing all together and some times using synoymns helps - the spiders are going to be looking for co-relevant terms... they are used to seeing certain terms when a particular topic is mentioned... if you don't have them and just a pile of repeated terms you will get down played
I would rather use keyword expanding technique to avoid excessive usage of the target keywords like keyword stemming for example..
