Howdy all. Forgive me for my noobness and if this thread has been started before. I just recently got gmail and I have 6 invites but when I click on the link at the top of the inbox or if I go to invite an individual in my inbox the link doesn't work, not a thing, it is underlined and looks like a link but it darn tooting just won't open. There doesn't seem to be a help (the help link in my gmail brings me to a url that is not working) or anyone to contact at gmail to ask. grrrrrr. I got here through a search on google though so I suppose thats one thing :p
I use Firefox and I have also tried on IE but no difference.

Help, suggestions appreciated.

Cheers!

:)

I've had the same problem come and go. I use ZoneAlarm, and I've thought it might be tied into that or perhaps some pop-up blocker I can't find that might be on (Google's own, via its toolbar, is specifically set to allow it). I know on my wife's computer, I can make it work. But I wish they'd come up with another way perhaps for that invite to operate -- at least I'm glad to know it's not just me :)

I had a check to see if there are any ad blocks etc (as Firefox have that built in) and I don't see any (anyway ain't that what gmail is offering?).

Ok anyone want to be my Clyde :p

I hate to be the last one, or the late bloomer, but how does one get invited to use a email system that is still in it's beta phase? Sure I would love to be invited, but as we know I know no one, and the only reason why I am here is to directly ask for an invite for Gmail. I know it's rude, and bold but at the same time I hope that we can appreciate honesty too.

Hi Bonnie,

Are you still unable to access your invites? Often this problem is caused by third-party security software or pop-up blockers. However, since you are using Firefox, do you have any additional browser extensions installed? This could also be causing the problem. Some extensions will not allow you to open a link in new widow, thus preventing you from opening your invitation link.

If you can't find what is causing the problem, let me know what type of security software and/or browser extensions you have installed and I will try to help you further.

Yes, I found switching off ZoneAlarm, then reloading the page worked. I could also reenable ZoneAlarm after doing this and still get the link to work.

I did notice it's set to block popups/under. I've switched that off to see if that's the problem. Will test tomorrow. The Google Toolbar's already been doing by blocking, but I had disabled that for Gmail -- so maybe ZoneAlarm was then kicking in.

Im just tired of Yahoo and MSN expanding my inbox once i've reached the limit for a month and a hundred emails have been bounced back to the sender. So I would gladly accept the challenge of receiving a g-mail account so that there's somebody down in Argentina who is cooperating with the downfall of BORING microsoft (it doesnt deserve to be written in capitals....lol).

Well to all of you, the best of lucks and i cant wait to have gibson@gmail.com!!! whoever makes it possible will be in my prayers!!!!

Slainte!

i had the same problem with the "Invite (4) friends to Gmail" link but i have a solution!:

1) right click on the "Invite (4) friends to Gmail" link and click "Properties"
2) copy the "Address (URL)" and paste it into your address bar
3) press enter
4) click on the "Invite (4) friends to Gmail" link and it should now work!!

hope that all made sense and that it's helpful :)

GmailRep - I'm having the same problem...

I'm using IE6 (with pop-up blocking switched off) on Windows XP Pro SP2, plus the Google Toolbar (with pop-up blocking on). Currently using Norton Internet Security 2005 instead of the XP firewall.

I'm not willing to turn the Norton firewall off to see if that makes your link work, but I would like to get it working. Pressing Ctrl when I press the link doesn't change anything.

Hi GmailRep - To answer my own question, in Norton Internet Security there's an Anti-Spam module where there was yet another pop-up blocker. Turning it off fixed the invite link.

Seems to me in your help file you may want to document all these, or maybe just not use pop-ups.

Does anyone really have 50 friends?

Does anyone really have 50 friends? Depends on how big of a fmaily you come from. But it could be changed to acquaintences... or people you want to convert to the G side.
