Even if social bookmarking links carry little or no weight, it's so easy to do, it's not going to harm your ranking, and you might even get extra traffic. So why not take a minute and just do it ?

Social Bookmarketing ?

i think social media is working. Though you cann't forget SEO but still there is no loss in using social media. It helps to bring relevant traffic to your website as well build some backlinks.

Do you? That was the original topic to be discussed folks, so how about staying with it instead of posting links - which isn't what the thread is about.

Reflection

Yes, Social book marking links really have weightage as they linked directly to the site.

JayAre
06-18-2007, 10:09 AM
That's right Reflection, but most of them carry rel="nofollow" so search engines like Google don't count them as incoming links. In other words, the PageRank (link juice) isn't transfered.

This issue has little effect on Feedfetcher! Notice that little "RSS" at the bottom of the pages. So, yes it is fair to say they may have some "waightage" even if not obvious. ;)

The links may not count for much; as soon as social site feels they are being abussed for links they simple bring out the nofollow i.e. delicious and wikipedia.

IMO when it comes to social sites its not the links that are important its the traffic potential. These sites have millions of users and if you can tap into that you open up a whole new avenue of traffic which can supplement your search engine traffic

If you are using Stumbleupon and Del.icio.us
make sure to sign up for stumblexchange.com and deliciousxchange.com. They are essentially vote/link exchange site, but they help to boost your profile on the social networking sites.

Marcia
08-13-2007, 03:41 PM
Yes, they're link exchange sites (one has a total of 9 pages indexed), and that's kind of the reason many sites have begun using nofollow, to try to avoid manipulation.

I think yes! By far and large in today's Search Engine Marketing World where social networks are robustly leveraging search engines. It's a proven fact that more you optimize social networks for your seo campaigns the betters visibilites you get. But this comes with time, let say; with in 3 months.

I believe Seo Consultants should focus on to Social Media Optimization (SMO)!

Worth pointing out that social networking sites like myspace and facebook are a little different than social bookmarking sites like delicious.

Hi all
When you bookmarking your links, that links are showing in the home page of the social bookmarking site. At that time search engine crawlers are visiting your links and indexing them. Due to this fact some Bookmarking links comes in SERPs.

Actually most links have nofollow tags but many of these sites contain RSS feeds that are open to search engines.

By bookmarking our favourite pages and links, we ensure that we can get them easily. It is just a storage place for us.If we get some traffic from this then it is an extra benifit. This is the best way we describe bookmarks.

kjripp

I think that social bookmarking, whether there are nofollows on the links or not, can help with SEO and traffic. Someone comes across your site on a social bookmarking site, and hopefully likes it, bookmarks it, and visits it again (and again, and again); therefore increasing your traffic and unique visitors. That person could have their own site or blog, or be a writer for a prominent online magazine related to your business, and like your site so much that they link back to it from their site/blog/article; therefore helping you with SEO.

When using SB sites, it's necessary to become involved in the community of bookmarkers. Don't just bookmark a bunch of pages on your site and never come back to it again. For instance, you can visit the profile pages of the people who visited your site or profile and see if those folks have their own websites. If their sites relate in some way to your site, you could develop a possible linking relationship with that person.

I think this is the only person speaking logically about how social bookmarking can help with SEO - it's a strategy thing, not somehow the SEs magically like social bookmarking sites.

When using SB sites, it's necessary to become involved in the community of bookmarkers.

Another important point. Hence why so-called "myspace marketing" "blog marketing" and this social bookmarking marketing is a bunch hogwash.

One has to be involved in order for it to be effective. Also why the kids are in better positions to make $$$ with myspace than bandwagon jumping adults. Anyone ever used Myspace for instance? I HATE it when losers try to network with me - I lump them in with the MLM spammers and the porn-cam girl spammers. None of them have credibility at all.

If you ain't part of the community - forget about it. Stick to the conventional stuff - which, ironically, STILL WORKS!

Aw, thanks crypt! :o

Another thing to consider when using SB and SM sites is the audience - you shouldn't just start posting and bookmarking on Delicious and Digg if the audience isn't your target demo. Just take a look at the subject matter of the most popular stories to get an idea of who uses that particular site.

Stumbleupon is definitely a more general-audience SB site that has a wide variety of interest groups, while Digg is more oriented to techie-types. There are lots of niche SB sites as well, like Small Business Brief and Sphinn. You can even create your own SB site on Ning.com.

Yes, Farhan you are right. One way links are good but many of them not crawled frequently.
But social bookmarks are crawled faster by search engines specially Google.
